If photons of light (natural or artificial) with sufficient energy enter a photovoltaic cell, its electrons can react to a higher energy state. The more light is absorbed, the more electricity is generated by photovoltaics.
Thus, using photovoltaics, we can easily convert solar energy into electricity and use it as an alternative to traditional means of energy production.
