How to get electricity from the sun?
Solar radiation can be converted directly into electricity by solar cells (photovoltaic cells). In such cells, a small electrical voltage is generated when light strikes the junction between a metal and a semiconductor or the junction between two different semiconductors.
Solar panels are made of photovoltaic cells that convert solar energy into electricity, so generating electricity with solar panels is also called solar PV.
Photovoltaic cells are located between layers of semiconductor materials such as silicon. The layers have different electronic properties that, when struck by photons from sunlight, energize and create an electric field. This is known as the “photoelectric effect”, which creates the current needed to generate electricity.
Solar panels generate direct current electricity. This is then passed through an inverter to convert it into an alternating current, which is either routed to the grid or used by homes and businesses that have the panels installed.
Solar power converts energy from the sun into electrical energy. Photovoltaic cells can be used to create an electric current when exposed to light. This is called the “photovoltaic effect”. Photovoltaic cells or solar cells can do this.
